As I have long said, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, reasons Windows has remained dominate is its backwards compatibility. People can continue to use their existing software for many years. RT eliminates that advantage.

That, and the market confusion that MS has introduced by making RT's Desktop mode look essentially identical to the real Windows. It's got a desktop, it's got a taskbar, it's got all my files and folders, it's got Office, what do you mean I can't install my app?!

Windows RT is clearly intended for budget tablets. If Samsung are out to make better tablets, Windows 8 should be used.

Agreed. The RT is just too hobbled to be worthwhile.

Surface Pro FTW baby.

Still I think having a pure RT experience on ARM is of value for Microsoft.

#1 - apps, apps, apps. 1st & 3rd party. Quantity and quality.
#2 - The app store itself needs a total UI redesign.
#3 - eliminate the desktop completely
#4 - finish creating RT versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. OneNote MX is already there.
#5 - Create a 4:3 form factor with hardware orientation lock. Maybe get rid of the kickstand as people like to put tablets inside leather cases with their multi-angle stands.
#6 - Put haptic feedback in the touch cover.
#7 - Fix the Metro UI use of garish colors, introduce some glossy effects and gradients.
