this. They realized they couldn't crank out enough Exynos SOCs without delaying their release date.
Honestly, all things considered the snapdragon version is the better all around product of the two. The exynos quad has some pretty big issues regarding the core switching.
samsung is almost new to this thing so it was obvious that they'd face these problems. snapdragon processors are awesome and i'm feeling even happier after reading that the note 3 will use the snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, where as the exynos octa chip has a max speed of 2 GHz. will definitely plan to buy the note 3.
well, they couldn't manufacture huge amounts of the exynos octa core chip, so they decided to introduce 2 versions, one with the snapdragon 600 processor(70% S4s use this) and the other one with the exynos octa core chip(which powers only 30% of the S4s). but, in my opinion the exynos variant is better, too bad it wasn't available in my country.
Why are they new to this? Samsung is an engineering powerhouse. They just can't crack out enough Exynos SoCs.
Even various Note 2/S3/S2s had Exynos processors over the years.
Samsung has a long history of producing chipsets that predates the Exynos line. I believe the iPhone 3GS uses a Samsung chipset, just not branded Exynos.
Don't forget about all the different bands and markets. Snapdragon ownes the lte rights and samsung would need to add a separate modem for ever exynos soc. The snapdragon has the modem built in and already supports all the base bands.
The korean shve300 exynos 5 gs4 supports lte but none that the usa market uses and would need a different modem to support our market bands.

The Korean variant of the Exynos supports 20 LTE bands, including band 17 that AT&T and T-Mobile use.

The Note 2 came here with an Exynos SoC. I'm fairly certain it had no Qualcomm radio in it.
It supports all bands of LTE worldwide.
It will NOT work in the usa they are hardlocked out and that phone has a seperate qualcomm modem in it.im not saying there is no support by the actual modem im saying samsung did not pay to license it and the note 2 has a separate modem added to it that is not built into the main exynos soc
and what do you mean? Qualcomm owns 4g and sells all the modems that use it.even the iphone 5 has a qualcomm modem in it

That's why we see so many people running the Korean s4 here in the states right?I was going to buy the Korean one and after much research it will not work on Verizon lte and only on hspda+ on certain networks and the bands we need are not unlocked
You do realize that Samsung has building ARM SoC's for a very long time, for 13 years in fact. Every single iPhone, iPad and iPod touch released so far has included an SoC which has been made by Samsung. So how come they are now to this?
The real issue is Samsung refuses to release the Exynos 5 source code. Oh, how I hate them right now.
Well for the octacore that is. The Nexus 10 has full support for its exynos 5250. If you want aosp for a galaxy phone buy the snapdragon version.
