According to a report in Korean media, Samsung has sold 40 million tablets in 2013. The number falls right in line with the manufacturer’s expectations which were revealed during an analyst day in November.

Samsung has reportedly sold 12 million tablets over the past three months alone. This is hardly a surprise as the company launched the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) during this period. It also promoted heavily its budget-friendly Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 range by offering discounts and bundling free tablets with other Samsung products.

While 40 million units is already a stellar number, Samsung has even more grandiose plans for 2014. The company allegedly plans to increase the 2013 number of tablets sold by 250% to a whopping 100 million units – in line with previous reports.

According to FNN News, the company sold 9.1 million tablets in Q1 2013, 8.4 million units in Q2, 10.5 million in Q3 and over 12 million this quarter, a record for the company. Comparatively, the company sold around 1.5 million tablets in 2010, almost 6 million tablets in 2011 and 16.6 million units in 2012

2010: 1.5 million
2011: 6 million
2012: 16.6 million
2013: 40 million
2014: aiming for 100 million

100 million in 2014 doable? I would say no....maybe 70 million but I can't see 100 million when Amazon and Google is selling tablets at cost.

Let's see how their "Pro" models look and are received. However, 100 million is pretty high. We'll see...

Well, if they can work some of the magic they used on the Note 3 to improve the deficiencies on their tablets, would certainly be more likely.

Apparently tablets weren't a huge priority in the previous years. Samsung will be looking at now tackling the tablet market with the same effort they put into smartphones. Waiting to see what they introduce at CES and MWC.
