Samsung Spinpoint 120 GB notebook HD anyone?

Hi, I've been in looking around for some time now on these forums and newegg, places like that, for a new hard drive to upgrade my macbook from the stock 60 gb and I just now saw that Newegg has some high capacity drives in the Hitachi Travelstar up to 120 gb but I also saw a 5400 RPM samsung spinpoint drive for the incredible price of 114.99. Does anyone have this drive in their macbook or have any other information on it? Please post your thoughts, thanks!

Better to buy Seagate or Toshiba.

There is no reason to avoid Samsung drives. At all. We use the 2.5 Spinpoints all the time in little external boxes. They are quiet and run cool, and no problems yet in 20 units that get kicked around daily. We haven't put any of 'em in MacBooks yet, but Samsung make good little drives.

Are Samsung the ones in the iPods? Or are they little 1.8 Seagates?

I saw that too and it peaked my interest. It's bunches cheaper than the other guys.. and Samsung is typically a pretty good brand.. so...

I won't be buying for about a week or two, but post back if you decide to buy it and what your experiences are.

I have used samsung 2.5 sata hard drive for macbook as external drive. well, I have already seagate 120GB HDD on my macbook. so I have kind of additional hard drive. so it's been external. it's very quiet, faster. no problem. you can use it without worry.

I thought Toshiba made the hd drives and Samsung and Hatachi made the MicroHD drive while Samsung also makes the flash drives for the nano.

BTW any one know about the 1.8 160gig hd that Archos has coming up in their new devices.

Yeah, the 1.8 drives are Toshibas,

and Samsung and Hatachi made the MicroHD drive

The CF drives in the minis were from Hitachi.

while Samsung also makes the flash drives for the nano.

Apple have been hitting up just about all the large NAND suppliers to fill their flash players.

BTW any one know about the 1.8 160gig hd that Archos has coming up in their new devices.

The dimensions of that player strongly suggest that there is a 2.5 drive in there.

Samsung drives are wonderful if you value quiet. They are generally not the fastest drives (that's the trade-off for quiet), be sure to look up those numbers and see what you think of them.
