Have been using 2 TB Samsung T5 with 2019 iMac since April. All previously working well. I never turn off either the Mac or the T5. However in recent 1 - 2 weeks when I wake up the Mac, one or several notifications are present on screen stating that the T5 had not been shut down properly. Any insights into what is causing this? Advice? Thank you.

Just wondering...

In the energy saver pref pane, do you have a check for the option to "put hard disks to sleep when possible" ??
If so, I'd UNcheck that box.

Other than that...
... so long as things "go back to normal" once you cancel the dialog, there's probably nothing seriously wrong.

Personal experience:
I -always- shut my Mac(s) down at night, and reboot in the morning.
I believe this policy has contributed to having my Macs all run as smoothly through the years as they do...
