looking at using a Samsung T7 2tb ssd for my photographic files to be used with Lightroom Classic on a 2017 iMac with a 1Tb ssd internal drive using Monterey OS.

Question is this.. will it be ok to format the Samsung T7 ssd as APFS for this and will Lightroom be ok with this. Currently using a spinning EHD formatted to extended ( Journaled )

I don't use Lightroom but I use Photoshop and other very demanding software, including heavy use of a Windows 10 virtual machine. I have three 2tb Samsung T7's, all formatted as APFS. Really happy with them, very fast and reliable. This is what I get on my 2018 Mini with a USB-C connection. Sorry, not familiar with the 2017 iMac. Does it have USB-C? If not, the T7 also includes a regular USB-A cable which should work fine but would be slower.

All good thanks.. the new T7 2Tb SSD is now my main storage for my photo Raw files and the older spinner is now my back up.. I also have two more spinners that are extra back ups .. so I now have the t7 ( first external storage drive ) and 3 other back ups on spinners. All is well with lightroom etc.
