So I'm in the market for a point and shoot camera, something I can take along with me to college. I've been doing a little preliminary research and I've come across what seems to be a pretty good camera at a reasonable price, the Samsung TL34HD. 3.6x optical zoom (28-102mm). 3" color LCD. ISO range 80-3200. Face, blink and smile detection. HD movie mode that captures 720p video at 30 fps with HDMI port. I was wondering if anyone has used this camera before and can give any opinions on it. Also if you have any suggestions for a good alternative to this particular model I'd love to hear them :)

B&H has it for around $223.

I can't comment about this camera specifically but this has an INSANE number of pixels packed into a tiny, tiny, tiny space. The reviews of similar samsung cameras have found that detail goes out the window as someone (the little guy in the camera) has to impressionistically paint over all the noise.

What exactly do you want? Generally Fuji make good compacts (try the F100fd I suppose, that might be too expensive) and some canons, I don't think Canon make any compacts that are that bad. Sony and Nikon have some good dealies too. Oh, yes, and Panasonic, sometimes.

Samsung? OK, but generally not as hot. They look great though.

On cursory inspection there seems to be a rebate on the F100fd. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...612&shs=&at=Brand_Fujifilm&basicSubmit=Submit Unsure if that link will work. But check their site.
