Samsung U28D590D (4k 28") & AMD 7950 almost but not quite working in osx?

A coworker had one of the Samsung 28" displays, and let me test it with my MacPro 4,1 with a flash 7950. It *almost* works - I actually get 3840x2160x60hz, but with some display corruption on the last ~100 pixels on the right. Oddly enough, I can mirror the display to my Seiki 4k (30hz) and it looks fine on the seiki, corrupt on the samsung.

Under windows, everything looks fine.

Has any managed to get 3840x2160x60hz in a classic Mac Pro?

the display works if connected to EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition. when installed in/with a MacPro3,1 the system refuses to boot at all, very strange

works with MacPro5,1 & GTX 680, but I'm not seeing boot screens... when I'm writing "works" I mean @60Hz because 30Hz is a no-no IMHO.

Thanks for the info - I'm all ready to grab one of these monitors, once the drivers actually work. I had expected 10.10 would have fixed, but i guess not yet.

FYI - dropping down to 50hz seems to work

I decided to grab one of these after all, and hooked it up to my 7950. I had planned on using a 30Hz refresh under OSX until the drivers get fixed, but while I was at it I made a 45hz and 50hz mode. Even at 50Hz I don't get screen corruption on the right side of the display.

I am still getting occasional 'glitches' on the screen, though my suspicion is that it caused by the supercheap mDP -> DP adapter I picked up. Waiting for an accell 1.2 mDP -> DP cable to arrive for real testing.

Another fun issue: The machine will not boot with 7950 using EFI firmware and the monitor attached. I had to reset dip switch into PC mode and use my GT120 for bootscreen on 2nd monitor.

ASUS PB287Q appears to work

I have a nmpro ("barebones" system) and was a little hesitant to pull the trigger on one of these 4k monitors since there still seemed to be problems, even with 10.9.3.

Anyway, I can happily report that the ASUS PB287Q (4k 28") appears to work just fine under 10.9.3 on my new Mac Pro barebones system. There is no glitching at the side of the screen. This is running at 4k resolution and 60hz. I only got the monitor yesterday so I haven't had the chance to put it fully through its paces, but everything looks good so far.

The only thing I had to do was switch the mode from displayport 1.1 to 1.2 in the monitor settings (otherwise it was stuck at 30hz).

One thing of note, coming from a 16:10 30" monitor to this widescreen 28" feels noticeably smaller. Still a very nice screen, however.

Nice. Might be a good update for my Asus 27" P278q.
