So I was one to completely criticize Apple for a useless new app - Passbook. Why have Passbook when there is a nifty technology called NFC? Well, surprisingly I see it used a lot at Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and Target. It got me thinking that Samsung can really strike gold in this realm once it gains traction. What do you think? I think Samsung can easily outdo Apple on Samsung Wallet.

I'm confused on what you mean? Samsung wallet is the exact same thing as passbook....

and as much as people hate on it, it is really a great feature. I personally use it for starbucks, airline tickets, and at the movies. A lot more convienant than launching an app.

I think NFC could and should be a technology used with passbook. It's an OK app as it is, but add NFC to it and a few more feature it will be awesome.

The thing is, the way passbook currently is makes it easier for retail stores to incorporate it.

Seriously.

I'm at a loss for why BestBuy hasn't jumped on this yet for their RewardZone....it is the perfect platform for them to utilize and make RZ much more user friendly....

Given they are a giant electronics chain, I'm a little puzzled as to why they've been so behind with implementing stuff like this. (Though I was there yesterday and found out the cashier can now automatically apply any RZ gift certificates you have on your account - without you having to print them. Which was nice).

Right, bar code readers that's easy if you're thinking of coupons and membership cards only. I think NFC is a good technology, and could be a good way to incorporate your credit/debit card into the app. Many countries use NFC in their bus/subway passes. It would be another card we could eliminate in our wallets.

There are good reasons you could add NFC to the phone as well. Would be nice if you can turn it off and on, and change what the NFC is transmitting, your Debit card, credit card(s), bus/train pass or your card to open the gate at work.

Personally, I hope Apple incorporates NFC into the iWatch for payments.....added level of security having to have the watch AND phone in proximity and much easier to flash your wrist than dig out your phone....

I agree it is a good idea, but then it causes retailers to change their equipment more than they are willing to. I think that is the main reason NFC has not blown up in the US.

I can't argue with that.

At least if it's an added feature, it doesn't force anyone to change equipment. They can continue to use the current feature or add NFC readers and do both. It could be up to the retailer.

I think that's not a bad idea, except people are very peticular about their watches. It's part of their fashion, unless Apple comes out with a wide range of watches to fit each person it's going to leave a lot of people wanting the NFC tech in their phones rather than their watch. Or if apple opens this feature up, other smart watches can incorporate NFC in their watches to be used with the iPhone.

... I think Samsung can easily outdo Apple on Samsung Wallet.

Why because it has Samsung in the name? That's as irrational as saying because it has the :apple: logo it will be magical, etc.

I am curious why you think Samsung Wallet would be better?

I have been using Google Wallet for months now on a daily basis. Works great! Not sure why Samsung is bothering with their own version like they did with S Voice.

Well TBH, it just p***** me off, why the hell cant all of these companies stop messing about and make an industry standard that can be adopted by all devices and all retail premises. Just bl***y stupid the way it is at the moment.
