Saw this article recently (http://www.likeacoupon.com/2014/09/iphone-6-vs-samsung-galaxy-alpha-what-buyers-need-to-know/) and noticed this line:

That being said, Samsung’s Galaxy Alpha has a 12 megapixel OIS camera and a 2.1 front camera vs Apple’s facetime front shooter for selfies. pple’s TrueTone flash and 240 FPS slow-motion video capture could put it over the edge, but then again the Samsung Galaxy Alpha can record 4k video.
It is so unfortunate that Apple did not take advantage of the opportunity to stick OIS in the 4.7'', now there is yet another reason for someone to choose Android over iPhone and can only get worse if Samsung releases a new phone months from now...

OIS is nice, but if its just OIS with the same ISOCELL camera found in the S5, the 6/6 Plus camera is better still

http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Appl...et-gold-standard-for-smartphone-image-quality

does the Alpha even support 1080p 60 fps recording? recording at 60 fps in 1080p is simply stunning and I would anyday take 1080p 60 fps recording over 4k recording anyday

The Galaxy Alpha could be the best phone in the world, but it's not an iPhone so not many people are going to care.

I wouldn't let OIS be a deal breaker for the iPhone 6, it takes good low light shots and average joe will not distinguish the differences until pointed out to them.

A quick Google gave me that link.

Do you still believe mega pixels guarantee photo quality?

No, but OIS hardware certainly can.

----------

I would never choose a phone based on camera

Camera quality is a big factor for me, difficulty comes from iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus, true OIS vs soft OIS... the last thing I need is a 4.7'' phone to come out with true OIS that makes me have a sliver of thought thinking "maybe I should have stuck with Android"

Samsung IQ still wins out

OIS is nice, but if its just OIS with the same ISOCELL camera found in the S5, the 6/6 Plus camera is better still

The CMOS sensor in the Samsung still produces better Image Quality. For photos the S5 Scored an 80 and only really loses out big in the area of auto focus speed & flash. DxO rated the IQ better because the iP6's are more accurate when the flash is used which does trump the Samsung.

S5 vs iP6+

Exposure and Contrast: Apple 90 vs 88 but the iphone exposure is not consistant
Flash: Apple 84 vs 82
Autofocus: Apple 94 vs 69.
Texture: S5 78 vs 71. S5 captures the resolution and detail war
Noise: S5 78 vs 73. iPhone 6 is worse yet
Color: Apple 84 to 82 but Apple falls short in low light
Artifacts: Apple 85 to 83 but with artifacs hairs are split as both show none. Apple's HDR's produce Ghosting
Optics: Apple loses here due poor Bokeh. Think white blood cells vs creamy bokeh circles. Moiré is also an issue both in photos and videos. I also have to fault Apple for lack of wide angle and what lens there is suffers from some Vignetting.

lol no it doesnt dude. the iPhones outperform the ISOCELL camera in the S5 in low light are you joking me? Galaxy s5 is pretty piss poor in low light

The iP6+ does well in low light due to OIS which allows for the signal amplification/ISO levels to stay 3-4 stops lower than the Samsung. In other words, you're racing a two cars but one has a loaded trailer attached to it  It will be interesting to see the Note 4 with OIS perform. Heck, the S5 will autofocus much faster with its electronic stabilization set to off. I never use it on my Note 3.

It's not hard to guess if you have that much of an ISO advantage that noise is going to be reduced. However, the fact that the iPhone scores drop to 3.8/5 and 2.5/5 for Color Shading and Color Rendering in low light shows their sensor is unable to resolve colors well without good exposure.

At the end of the day, most low-light cell phone images won't be large sized prints and likely down-sampled for web use. More importantly for both, a flash will likely be engaged for use. Besides, claim IQ all you want, you can't ditch the bad bokeh or the moire that is present with Apples camera.

That article is mistaken--the Alpha, like the S5, does not have Optical Image Stabilization but rather digital IS.

^^ exactly. Turn off that electronic IS and it will focus a lot faster too.

Another good catch is that both iPhones got a score of 82 overall and an 83-84 on stills, which evidently means the iPhone 6+ has no real advantage according to this study and their score. Me thinks there's a flaw or bias in their testing somewhere. Especially since OIS is where the 6+ excels, especially as it's related to the low light and noise testing. Not by a small margin either.

the S5 performs terribly bad in certain low light conditions with certain lighting, and non uniform sharpness across the whole image.

Again, no surprise given the ISO increase it holds. Compare two images under the same EV and you'll see. Higher ISO Shots will impact noise, color, white balance performance, dynamic range, etc..Also the shutter speeds themselves being lower will result in soft, less detailed images. Want to continue debating me on the S5's image sensor, let's then regroup once the Note 4 with OIS is tested. The results will be dramatically different.

and non uniform sharpness across the whole image.

Some image softness towards the edges of the frame would be a more accurate statement. That's not uncommon especially when the aperture is wide open as in when shooting in low light. Even my $1,700 Canon L lens is a touch soft on the edges. Feel free to review the full size images at DPReview if you prefer to see for yourself. I'd show you some but you'd likely consider me biased.
