Considering Alienware has the lastest 45MBs Samsung 64GB SSD's as an option on some of their higher end laptops, along with a dual Raid 1/0 option on the 17 model, I would expect Alienware/Dell to be 1st to market with the even newer 64GB screamers.

Apple? Hmm, maybe sometime late next year. But think about it, 1.8in SSD drives could easily be doubled up in RAID 0 on a MBP 17in for 128GB of storage that surpasses all but the very fastest 15k rpm desktop 3.5in SCSI/SAS drives! That's fast!!!

And if Samsung could get these out in 128GB capacity by year's end 2008 (larger capacity and less expensive magnectic HD's will still be in laptops for years to come), we could see the beginning of the demise of the magnetic HD in laptops from a performance standpoint.

1st SSD with SATA II interface, meaning a port multiplication would allow for a large RAID of these 1.8in drives, if you had the $$$ to pay for them. No mention of possible price on these as they aren't really in mass production yet, just prototype samples.

Piper: SSD drives may come to Macs in Jan.
http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/11/12/piper.ssd.on.mac.laptops/

Well no one on MR is interested, but Piper is speculating. 64GB seems too low of a capacity point for even the 'ultra-portable' laptop, or tablet device. When 128GB become available later next year at lower price points, then I think Apple will use them in laptops and iPods/iPhones

While is has been reported about the average performance of the last gen of 64GB Samsung (57MBs max read) SSD being installed in a MBP; lastest currently available SSD's from Mtron approach speeds of the as yet unavailable next gen 64GB Samsung SSD noted above:

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/21/mtron_ssd_32_gb/page3.html

Out performs both 10k rpm WD 150GB Raptor, and SAS drives in file server operations, equals WD Raptor in sustained read/write speeds. Unfortunately these top of the line performers such up more power than a typical laptop hard drive, so these Mtron models will not be the SSD used 1st in Apple laptops sometime in 2008.
