Hi,
Can I put a 2.8ghz Sandybridge CPU into a 2012 ivybridge iMac. I realise this is a downgrade, but I've got some Sandybridge CPU's. The Sandybridge sockets LGA1155 and the Ivy is FCLGA1155.

The physical fit seems to be the same. Will it work?

The socket is the same on Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge. FC stands for flip-chip. The processors are interchangeable

Does the fan blow?
Are you sure it's fitted correctly? Try refitting it.
Is the iMac on the latest firmware? The firmware might need to be flashed for it to recognise the chip in its pre-boot environment.
