Santa Rosa Macbook Pro - Fans

Hi,

There has been numerous threads lately regarding heat and the latest Santa Rosa Macbook Pros. Can you please share what temperature your Macbook Pro is at before the fans start spinning? Or perhaps the fans spin all the time but the level of noise is not perceptable?

I'll begin: Fan always on (lowest temp so far is 42 degrees Celsius); very low noise.

If you're going to conduct a poll about this, you may want to include more info. The fan rpm is variable based upon the temp of the system (CPU temp, I think...?). So, if you load the system and things heat up, the fans' rpm will increase.

That means, an interesting thing to know would be at what temp(s) do the fan speeds change, and what is the new speed. To see how consistent this is across people's MBPs.

Thanks Chem. I'm not really conducting a poll. I just want to know if the fan is actually spinning regardless of what temp the computer is running at or wether the fan starts spinning at a particular temp.

I hear a buzzing sound even when my computer is idling around 35-45 degrees celsius. But I am not sure if this sound is coming from the fans or from the hard drive. I'm assuming the fans are spinning (at a low RPM) regardless of what temp the CPU is running.

Well, i just installed iStat pro last night so i havent followed it too much, but i found the fans would both hover around the 1900 - 2000 rpm, if the computer was reletively idle, or just doing basic stuff like itunes, firefox ect.
As for the temp of the cpu, i was in a very very hot room so my temp was at about 60 - 65 degrees C.

Running iStat Pro now as well. I am getting a consistent speed of 1990-2010 @ 40-70 Celsius. This is during idling and basic usage. The fans rotate at 4000 by 85 Celsius. This is with CPU intensive work such as Aperture.

Geeze, if they're getting up to 85C, the fans should definitely be maxed out.

Yeah definitely. That's why I'm considering using software to control fans. I tried Fan Control but didn't like it much. I may give SMC Fan Control a try.
