Hey - if there's anyone with a new MacBook running Bootcamp and Vista - can you let us know the stock "Windows Experience Index"?

I'm running a C2D MacBook Pro - with it's 4.7 rating - I'm assuming the new MacBooks should be at or above that rating...

It's doubtful that it will come close to a 4.7. The new graphics chip isn't quite up to par with the X1600.

Highly doubt it will be on par or above. It is nt using any dedicated gfx card unlike mbp.

On my SR MB running Vista on Fusion, I only get 1.0 due to the graphics card. I can get 3D and I would get 1.9 limited then by the lack of decent graphics memory detected by VMWare.

Well that is running through VMware so it is hardly a fair test. Run it in Bootcamp to see your real results.

i got a 4.8 on a Santa Rosa MBP 2.4 w/ 4gb of ram and the 256mb nvidia 6800M GT.

Windows Experience Index 5.1 on MBP

I've got 5.1 out of my new MBP (2.5 GHz, 15", 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics).

I am running the 64bit version of Vista Home Premium with Boot Camp 2.1 drivers.

Breakdown is:

Processor 5.4​

Memory(RAM) 5.1​

Graphics 5.9​

Gaming graphics 5.4​

Primary hard disk 5.1​

Windows runs really well and I get full access to all the MBP's features - not that I'll be ditching OSX anytime soon!

I have noticed it seems to run quite a lot hotter under Windows, particularly running 3D games - to the point where the back of the case is almost painful to touch. I push it quite hard in OSX running CAD and doing renders etc. but it never gets that hot...

It's well documented that MacBooks run a little hotter under Windows.

If the mac is hotter under windows try to run windows in "Power Saver" mode. In my experience it should be run cooler even than the "Better Energy Saving" of Tiger.

Intel's x3100 doesn't touch the x1600. It's not even close to it. I swear, why did Intel have to name it the x3100. It's too close to AMD/ATI's line of video cards. They're not related in anyway.

If i'm not mistaken, current versions of virtualization apps don't support 3d games.

Bootcamp, on the other hand, allows to natively install Windows so it has 100% power.

Boot camp is an application that assists you to install a native version of Windows onto your Mac.

This native Windows installation (only Windows is running at the time, you choose which OS to boot into on startup) is great for gaming.

VMware/Parallels is virtualisation, it essentially splits your machine in half - great for convenience but you don't have full unadulterated access to the graphics card as you would with a native install.

I made installed XP n it last night and it ran flight sim pretty well! VMware does say it only has experimental 3D graphics and DirectX9 support but it looked okay to me. Although, I didn't have the flight compass for some reason and the audio was a bit skippy.

Ahhh, I was running x86. Do you think that has anything to do with it? And, about bootcamp, once you have made the partition, can you change the size of it?
