Good day! After so much of debating between Mac mini or bringing back my 2012 3.06 I've decided to resurrect my beloved tower. Now I bought a sapphire pulse based on apple suggestion for compatibility but need to return it since it's having issues intermittent signal. Is the Sapphire Nitro+ be a problem for accessibility of PCIE slot #2? I heard it's thicker than the pulse and I need to put a USB 3.1 gen card in the futire for the slot#2. Slot 3 & 4 is occupied already. Thanks for any input you guys could share with this inquiry.

I have the Pulse, so I can't really say first-hand. But according to the footage towards the end of this video, accessing slot 2 may still be possible.

Thank you for your answering my inquiry. I am thinking of switching to nitro plus Bec it's 30 dollars cheaper than the pulse here in Canada. From the video it looks like the slot#2 can be access but I wonder how much room between two cards

No, Nitro+ is a 2.2 slots wide card, you better expect slot 2 will be completely blocked.

I have finally decided to go with the Nitro+ and unfortunately I have to sacrifice slot #2. So to everybody who is going to install a Sapphire Nitro+, Special Edition or a Limited Edition it will make PCIE slot #2 unaccessible.

I have the same trouble with my ASUS Strix RX 580...very frustrating. I also have a GTX 1080 but can't currently use it because of the Mojave driver delay. I'm also experimenting with using a Thunderbolt 3 Titan Ridge card, and Nvidia's drivers don't currently support driving my LG Ultrafine 5k like the RX 580 does. I wish I could get my x16 Slot 2 back!

Best of luck to you on resurecting the beast, @AAGSmac!

Put the 580 in slot 2, and your smallest card in slot4. This will give back your other x16 slot.

Consider that Slot 1 and Slot 2 have 16 dedicated and independent lanes. Slots 3/4 share the same 4 lanes and bandwidth through use of a switch.

By configuring the way I do as above, you lose no lanes or bandwidth. Yes, you lose the use of a SHARED bandwidth SLOT ONLY. You will retain full bandwidth in this manner.

You will have to make a sacrifice somewhere, so let it be a shared slot 3. Hopefully that card isn’t so wide that it will inhibit the use of slot 4 with a small card. I don’t have this card to test, so I suppose it could be so wide that it also blocks Slots 4, but I would hope not.

There you go a smart solution. I hope they will have a Thunderbolt 3 card that we can use and get a PCIe expansion module
