Sapphire Radeon HD 6770

Hey everyone...

I'm looking to get a new video card for my Mac Pro to run Eyefinity on Windows, using Boot Camp, for some games.

I've heard that if you run Lion, which I am, we can run any Radeon 6xxx series card without the need to flash it.

I'm looking at this card:

Does anyone know if this will work for both my Mac side and my Windows side?

I contacted Sapphire, but they said it will not work because they don't have Mac drivers, but I would assume that OS X Lion includes the correct drivers.

Any thoughts???

Doesnt work bro, get a Mac version.
Newegg or macsales have them.

OWC only has a couple of cards on their site... at least that I can find, and those that they do have are fairly expensive.

What makes the Radeon 6750 work in my MBP, but the 6770 wouldn't work in my Mac Pro?

I know this seems like a noob question, and it really is, but I just don't understand what would make one work and not the other. I would imagine that 67xx series would be fairly similar hardware.

Nope – the 6870 does (see the threads about this here or at Netkas.org – there are a few limitations, e.g. problems with DVD player, but they’re basically fixable).

With the 6770, I’ve read (e.g. on Netkas) that you can flash it with a 5770 bios but I'm not sure how many would say go for it.

The ones they do are rather old – when the Mac Pro refresh comes (not likely to be tooooo long), there will be new cards and it’s been suggested that the current 5xxx ones will be discounted.

The 6870 gives roughly the same performance as the 5870 but is considerably cheaper (in the UK, it can be easily picked up for less than a third of the price of a 5870 from Apple) and has lower power consumption.

The 6750 in your MBP is a mobility version.
