Hello,

After doing some research (including these forums) I had decided to purchase the SAPPHIRE Pulse Radeon RX 580 to upgrade my 2012 Mac Pro.

I purchased the Dual 6-pin to 8-pin adapter and installed the card. The fans are spinning fine but it doesn't seem to recognize the HDMI outputs when plugged into my monitor. I know a few people said that it worked OOTB but I'm now wondering if that's true or if additional driver disks had to be installed or steps had to be taken.

If anyone else has had this issue/has any idea what else I need to do to get it up and running it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

What macOS version are you running?
Upgrade to High Sierra first and you should be fine.

As previous stated, which OS you are running?

Also, if your monitor is HDMI 2.0, try set it to HDMI 1.4

I have no plans to go past Sierra for quite a while. So what doesn't work in Sierra now?

I have zero issues in Sierra with my RX580, been running for 10 months.
But......it may be because I installed HS on another drive as a test, so the Mac firmware was updated.

the drivers for said RX580 are associated with the OS version, not the firmware. it should work just fine in sierra but as others have mentioned it would have more a "mature" driver in later OS versions, particularly HS 10.13.4+

One thing of maturity I have wanted from High Sierra, is that the sleep problem goes away with RX 580 combined with Dell P2715Q 4K. I have had some tremendous times with Dell displays, I've got at least three Dell displays I use. Today P2715Q did not give me a picture just after I changed a Pulse RX 580 to another Pulse RX 580. It was the same model, brand and I think they are absolutely equal to each other. After a famous power cord removal and a imminent power plug-in - it works perfectly again.

I plan to update to High Sierra pretty soon with all of my Mac Pros. At least before the mighty Mojave storm. Me too would like to know if there are any software pending benefits doing so. I use my (old) Macs for work mostly. That's why I lag behind the OS updates. You don't have any time to waste because of random downtimes. Money talks.

ps. Two Pulse RX 580 in use.
