I can buy an external optical enclosure and the adapter for half of what that thing costs...

I guess what I really want to know is the optical connector in the iMac a slimline SATA?

hi
You just spent 2200.00 plus on an i7 quadcore, spend the extra money and buy the optibay tray and do it the right way.. It fits right into the space the superdrive is in on the i7 plugs right in, with no extra wires and you are done. go into start up disk in finder and pick your ssd as your bootup drive. make sure you super duper new drive to same snow leopard as you have running your 1tb hd now. and it will work like it belongs and easy to move files over. I have done 3 imacs already. just take your time hooking and un hooking wires. 21.5, 27 and just got done with my 24 with 1tb and x25 160 in the optibay, also add 24" new cinema display, now run 2 24" displays. Iam in heaven. the 21.5 was to small and 27 to big for me. read (all taken thread) we both have pictures. he helped me alot. I also fried a 21.5 as i was in the learning stage. you dont want to do that with i7. good luck. and don't half a....s... it.
hope that helps.

is there any way to copy the OSx install with all programs and files from the 1TB hdd to the ssd after the ssd is installed?
