SATAII or I on late 2009 27" iMac superdrive slot?

My apologies if this has been asked before but its quite difficult to find any straight answers using search and rummaging through old threads.

I'm about to pull the trigger and replace my 2009 27 iMac's superdrive with an OWC SSD. Then I stumbled upon this:

Is it true that the late 2009 iMac's superdrive is limited SATAI? If this is so then it would probably be better for me to put the SSD on the Hard disk slot instead? Advice please. TIA

Forgive my noobness, although I've been using Macs for a while its only now I'm into tinkering with them.

Anyway, it says the SATA slot used by my ODD has a Link Speed of 3 Gigabit but the Negotiated Speed is 1.5 Gigabit. If I install a SSD will my Negotiated Speed will increase to 3 Gigabits? So if the Link Speed is 3 Gigabit does it mean that the ODD slot is indeed SATA II?

Yep, it's actually a SATA II port, however the drive is only SATA I, hence the lower negotiated speed. If you install a SATA II or III device, it will be the higher 3.0Gbps

Correct. It is a 3Gb/s port, but the optical drive presently there is only 1.5Gb/s. If you replace the drive with one capable of 3Gb/s, then you'll be good.

The mechanical hdd is showing 3Gbs. I'm wondering if the cheap caddy I purchased off ebay is the culprit here, although I have seen other threads complaining of this issue.

Hmm that is odd indeed but I noticed that there are folks who had similar experiences as yours.
