Is there an app out there that would let me save word, excel , ppt attachments from my email. I can't tell if docs to go or office pro would let me do this. What I'm trying to do is set up folders that I could save files that my boss & others send me for easy access as opposed to having to find the email that they sent me. Many thanks

The only solution that I've found is to jailbreak and install both Attachment Saver and iFile. Attachment Saver allows you to save non-photo email attachments to your iPhone/iPod Touch's file system, and iFile allows you to access the file system and its folders. I have Documents to Go, and it only lets you upload files to your device via WiFi from the accompanying desktop application.

You can do this with Docs to Go (exhange edition), but only if you have an exchange email account.

I use Attachment Saver on a JB iPhone, then iFile to move saved files to the app of my choice (Quick Office, Goodreader, etc.) to open, view, and manipulate the file, then ifile again to reattach it to an email and send it.

I had no idea you could do all of that with iFile, but I haven't really gotten that in-depth with the app yet. I'll make sure to do that today.

Edit: Bro, you are the man. I'd hardly used iFile before your post, and now I'm absolutely loving it. Why Apple doesn't already provide a way for users to do this (without them having to dig around the guts of the iPhone OS) boggles the mind. Thanks!

I understand Apple's overall philosophy about keeping the UI dirt-simple to appeal to the masses and deliver a phone that "just works", but not having a user-accessible file system really limits the phone, especially for those using Quick Office and other file editing apps.

Anyway, glad the tip worked out for you. Check out the iPhone Hacks forum for all kinds of other tips. Make sure to bookmark your favorite App documents folders in iFile so you can easily jump back and forth. If you update an app, that link will be broken and you'll have to delete and remake the link.
