Saving files on iPad

Hey everyone,

Does anybody know if there is a way to save files (documents, video files, photos etc.) internally on the iPad or iPad Pro without using iCloud or Dropbox?

By save files, do you mean saving files generated on the iPad or somehow copying files from an external source?

Both... Such as photos taken from a separate camera which have then been downloaded on to the iPad via a USB-C SD card reader, and then edited on the iPad for example. As well as a Word document created on the iPad. :)
 
Photos that are imported via the Camera Connection Kit are placed in the Photos library and then uploaded to iCloud if you have this switched on. No choice there. I used this process for a while but found it far too restrictive. It was very difficult, if not impossible, to geo-tag the original images and do significant adjustments to the images. Now this may have have changed as it has been a long time since I tried this. All my photos from external cameras are now imported on my desktop iMac.

Not sure if this is what you mean, but there is a free app called Local Storage that registers itself in Apple Files app and you can add it in the same way you would add Dropbox or OneDrive to Files and you can put files and folders in it - but it’s local.

since that cloud is not part my system, i email my art work and pictures from the ipad to other platforms.
I have alot of saved comics on the ipad within the app i draw on, if this helps.

Yes, without FileBrowser I am sure I would have left the Apple Eco system years ago. FileBrowser for me makes an iOS device far more practical. For work and personal, I have all my files neatly arranged in folders. No need to remember which app i created any file. I can quickly View most files within FileBrowser, or open them in a compatible app to modify. I also use it to play music and films. FileBrowser was doing this type of stuff before iFiles. Great development team. If I could only have one third party app on my devices, this would be it.

I use Readdle Documents which allows you to set up file systems locally (on the Ipad) and/or in icloud. It is very handy and quite versatile. I also use Local Storage which is great but a little less powerful for file management.

I keep lots of files in local storage so I don't have to depend on having wi-fi access, especially when out of the country. The new IPads have so much storage possible they have made it unnecessary for me to travel with a laptop.

Can someone please with an example hello me understands,I am really curious and I wanna this, how can APPS like Filexplorer or Local Storage help me works on the iPAd and how can it make m life easier on the iPad ?

Another option “Good Reader” - a great app for storing documents, organizing into folders, editing on the IPad, and accessing files without Wi-Fi when wifi is not available.

Been using for years one my most used apps on IPP

For me, for example I often have to reply to clients quickly with data created from different apps in different formats. I store all data be it Office, iWork, PDF etc in the relevant folder in FileBrowser. I can then quickly and easily attach these documents, photos etc to an email. There are many other reasons to have a file structure on an iOS device, but for me this is the primary purpose.

Another good reason is with FileBrowser you can view a file but not change it. That way you don’t accidentally change any data. You can of course edit the document by selecting it in FileBrowser and clicking share file and FileBrowser will give you the apps that are compatible with the file.

It’s also an easy way to use iPhone as a sure USB drive.

I hope this helps, others can give you their own preferred uses.

Only saw 1 post there - not sure what that poster did not like about the "GoodReader EULA" ?

It's not like Google or gmail where "Google" can mine all your internet communications for useful info for it's advertisers and other purposes, AFAIK GoodReader does not connect to the internet unless you specifically configure it to do so?

Personally I use it as an offline file, document, video organizer and editor (folders) - and don't have it connected to Drop box or iCloud which is what the OP was looking for

I used to use GoodReader, liked PDF reflow, very useful.

I have got fed up with apps mining my data. I deleted GoodReader after they tried to sign me up the their EULA.

Will have a read of the new agreement.

Still I have been getting lots of targeted emails lately so one or more of my apps is leaking my info.

Really I no longer see the security advantage of iOS.

I hear you - one of my pet peeves too :(

I quit using my gmail when I started getting advertising about topics in my emails within 24 ours of the emails, not to mention google search, youtube and amazon searches that are even more obvious

I don't think GoodReader does any of this - at least AFAIK

But isn't Apple own FILE app also let's you do this ? So why have Filebrowser ?
 
It's incredible the hoops you have to jump through (not to mention the privacy risks with your data) to accomplish such an incredibly basic task that hasn't been an issue in computing for decades.
