I have saved all my iphotos and imusic to an external drive.

Before I delete the files that I have sent to this external HD, I wanted to make sure that I was saving these correctly. It looks like I am not.

I deleted a file from the HD and then went to my external to make sure it was still there. It's not. Apparantely, it was erased on both. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

You may have set your external to automatically update your HDD... It's kind of like syncing your Music Library with your iPod. If a song is deleted from the Library, the next time you hook up your iPod, its deleted from there too. I think what you want to do is archive as opposed to syncing. Syncing is nice for stuff that you update regularly and so on and so forth.

What kind of drive do you have? That might give us some idea... hope that helps

It sounds like you didn't actually copy the files over. Did you create aliases by mistake? Dragging a bunch of files over to an external hard drive should just copy them there as new files on that drive, leaving you free to delete them elsewhere.

Best bet is after moving them to the external drive try to open them. If you have a second computer you could also try opening htem on the other computer to make sure they were transferred.
