Hey Guys,

I'm pretty much a photoshop newb here. I've been making my own buttons for my iPhone apps and I keep running into a problem when I save them as .pngs

-It's kinda hard for me to explain what happens so try to hang in there -

When I save an image as a png it makes the image as big as the canvas I was working on. It doesn't save the image so the resolution dimensions matches the image, instead it matches the canvas.

So how do I correct this problem, so that when saving a .png from photoshop, the .png's dimensions area of the image I was working with, not the canvas.

You're better off doing something like this in Fireworks or ImageReady. You will need to create slices and save the slice rather than the whole file. To do this, use the slice tool.

I'm a bit confused by your explanation. Why would your canvas be any bigger than the final image you want anyway? Don't you crop it to the exact right size once you're done?

Yeah. You can fix the size of the Crop tool to specific pixel dimensions, too, to ensure that your document area is the right size.

Cheers

Possibly

Just maybe.....

Zoom in our out until your icon appears to be the correct size. Take note of the magnification percent.

Go to image-resize, and change the percentage to the percentage that you noted earlier, zoom back in, and crop.

Use the "save for the web" feature. Is probably in the file or the edit menu.

There you can choose the extension, the compression, the pixel dimensions, all in one.

Of course you can use resize, but "save for the web" is a one stop shop.
