I had this problem too. I also noticed that my problem had other hints as to what was causing it. I had some installer issues where installer.app thought I had some programs installed, but I didnt. Apparently itunes restored some things that I did not want there. Basically, itunes made a clean install, not so clean.

I made a new user account on my macbook, did the same thing again. Perfect. No more slow down, no more crashes etc. It runs perfectly!
