Ok so today I finaly got a chance to see the new macbook at a local compsusa. Thought I would post about even though I know many others have allready done so. Just incase anyone else is interested in the macbook like me.

My first reaction was wow this screens not that bad in terms of glossyness. I was able to point it directly at some lights and didnt get much of a glair onscreen. Just for kicks i compared it to a couple of pcs and boy were those reflective unlike the new macbook. So I think thats a non issue..hell my parents pioneer elite plasma has a glossier finish to it then the macbook and that sits in a room with windows and skylights with light sources moving around with little noticable glare.

As for any noise coming from these new macbooks I put my ears right up close to the machines both a white and black module and could barely hear them runing. No mooing, wining, etc.

I did not seem to notice that much of a speed difference between the macbook and the previous ibook. I guess I was just expecting more. Some of it could of course be limited by ram and the slower rpm hd. Also mostly all I was doing was oping and closing a bunch of random apps.

The keyboard seemed quite nice and easy for me to get used to typing on. However the one issue I had with the macbook was the trackpad. I dont know if it was configured at its slowest setting posible for scolling around or what but it was so slow at movement that it was basicly useless and a painfull experience. Stupid me forget to check the settings doh! I hope thats not how its suposed to be otherwise even old dell p3 pos notebooks have beter trackpads on then :(

well now hopefully I can get around to ordering one cause I would like to have it by june 30th in order to have it for vacation.

The Macbooks use a 5400rpm hd, while the iBooks used a 4200rpm. The ram though makes a huge difference on the Macbooks as I noticed this today. I used one with 512mb, and one with 1gb ram and the one with 1gb ram opened up all the programs I could click on within a second or two, while the one with 512mb didn't like all my clicking.

I actually found it quite snappy w/ 512Mb of RAM. I mean, I didn't try to open up many programs, but for what I would use it for, it worked perfectly.

Well Thats what I thought of my MB with 512mb of RAM. But now that I have 1.25 GB RAM I can definitely say the difference is really huge. Even for regular apps. I m not saying it`s really a must have. But it`ll be the best investment in your MB you can make. Especially coz the RAM in your stock MB is actually less than the stock iBook. AFAIK MB uses 64 MB for GMA. That leaves you with just 448 MB.

drools at the thought of 2GB RAM in a macbook :D

now that should make it fast... Actualy I probably will upgrade the RAM budget allowing after having the macbook for awhile. At least to a full gig. I'm also considering replacing the HD with a 7200rpm or larger sized 5400rpm drive if i can find one close to the curent specs for power usage.
