Hi, my name is James. I am a student in Toronto Ontario.
I am looking for a cheap MacBook Pro, either then 1.8GHz or 2.0GHz.
Money wise, I COULD buy from Apple 2.0GHz MBP $2199 + $120 for 1GB RAM + Apple Care + 15% tax. (CDN figures) or I could buy from a reseller and get a deal. This guy e-mialed me from
http://www.americanwarehouse.us
I am wondering if it is a scam or not, the prices seem very cheap, odd indeed.
Thanks a lot.
James.:)

Yeah, that would be a concern of mine. I never do business online without the ability to contact a real person - especially if there are no phone numbers or addresses posted.

That and they've been in business since 2003, so the registration date definitely looks odd, when you see they did a SPAM campaign.

Yup, I'll bet thay had another site that was recently pulled due to fraudulent activity hence the new site with a recent domain reg date. SCAM and SPAM.

Theres no such thing as a cheap MBP ... unless its used or refurb. Once you accomplish this concept you will have no trouble picking out the scams

its definately a scam. theres already another thread on this site about it. phone # and address are all different.

Thank you for the imput all of you. I will not be buying from that website any time soon. Does anyone know another site/store other then Apple where i can purcahse their products? I hate how they jack the prices up to the sky. If any of you know a reliable site which sells, please, post it :) -James.

You won't find cheaper prices on the MBP, it's Apple's policy, unless it's a rebate from Amazon, etc.

Bingo, Apple enforces their MAP (minimum advertised price) -- so it is rebates, free crap, free shipping, and no tax charged that make for a smoking deal on a Mac.

But a lot of PC buyers are used to 10-50% advertised discounts, so they don't think anything is wrong with these companies.

---

Of course, it is about time for another price fixing lawsuit against Apple -- from those that don't think they are getting smoking deals on Macs.

FYI, we had another thread on this place a few days ago. You'll find some more information in that one if you're curious. Nothing definitive, but lots of red flags.
