scanner question

I have a MBP, purchased in Feb 2006. I am looking for a scanner/printer. Before I purchase I was wondering if the scanner can be networked or does it have to be hard-wired to the mac? Thanks in advance

Just get an all in one with a built in ethernet jack and/or wireless. All of there functions are available over your network. Plus since it is attached to the network directly there is no need to have a dedicated computer with printer sharing turned on.

this is exactly the set-up i have. it's an hp 7410 and my mac is set up to print, scan, and fax through it wirelessly. very convenient. when i was shopping for a multi-function printer earlier this year, canon and brother had some good alternatives that i considered. i'm sure there are new models out by now as well...
