I really want to scan my old piles of photos and put the prints away somewhere.

*I'd prefer not to spend to much but don't want to sacrifice any resolution that I might conceivably want later.

*I would prefer a smallish form-factor if possible.

*If there is any such thing as a WIFI or ethernet scanner, that could be worth investigating.

I know that a lot of you, especially the pros, have a great deal of experience with and knowldedge of what is on the market. Any and all help appreciated.

Stick to Epson or Canon and you'll be happy. Forget about a wireless scanner. Scans pass a lot of data. I choose my Epson based on cost and it will also do slides well enough for my needs.

Had to buy a USB2 board for my G4. You'll want USB2 connection for your scanner and may be a TV tuner card so that you'll have something to watch while you are scanning. Scanning take a lot of time and its boring!

I would have to recommend that you get an all-in-one printer/scanner copyer. Even thou i dont scan much i still got a multi printer, sometimes and i need to fax something (i rarly do) or want to scan i can do it.

But will such a scanner catch all the resolution found in a photograph? On a negative?

I wonder if I really need 48x96 as I thought.

FWIW, I am leaning toward the £299 Canon, but I'd be happy to spend less if I really wouldn't be sacrificing anything.
