i have a g4 powerbook with osx (tiger i think) ii have a canon canoscan lide 30. this is the first time this scanner has been installed on the mac. i downloaded the newest drivers from canon and installed them. a box poped up and show 3 differnt paths in my photoshop cs dir and asked me if there was anywere else i wanted to install the plug in i said no and installed. scanner works fine but olny in photoshop so i went back to canon.com to see if there was smothing i missed or a different driver. it was the olny one but there was some software called canon toolkit i dl that reinstall the driver and this time 1 path to the toolkit was there also so, i click to add a path for the plug in and tell it to goto the acrobat dir hmmm no plug in dir like with photoshop so i put it in the programs root. still says there is no scanner. the toolkit and photoshop sees it but not acrobat any ideas i have 1,000s of docs to scan and they must be pdf

scanner trouble with acrobat 7 pro

The plug-ins folder for Acrobat (on 6 Pro at least) is within the Acrobat application package.
Select the Acrobat application icon, control-click on it to bring up a menu. Choose 'show package contents', it'll probably show a folder called 'contents', within that will be a folder called 'plug-ins'.
However, all of those files will probably be called xxxx.acroplugin
You could try putting the TWAIN driver of your scanner in there. This may have a chance of working...

If you are still having trouble you may want to try installing your scanner's plugin in this folder:
Applications > Adobe Photoshop CS(1/2) > Plug-ins > Import/export
I use an HP scanner and that is where my plugin lives. There is also a generic Twain plugin in this folder. I'm using CS2, so setup may be slightly different for other versions.
At any rate, with this setup I'm able to create new pdf files within Acrobat 7 via the scanner. Try it with your canon plug-in(s), unless your scanner documentation says otherwise.
As a last resort, you can scan your pages into photoshop and save them as pdfs from there. You may want to scan them in first and do one final batch conversion at the end.
