Hi,

Does anyone know how well current scanner drivers run under Rosetta. I have an Epson Perfection 1640SU. I cant find any information via Epson about running these on Intel Macs. Hoping someone can shed some light on things.

[EDIT] Sorry posted in wrong thread.

Normally devices that need direct hardware access dont run well or at all under emulation schemes.......ala classic........great for running old SOFTware apps, but things like scanners and sound devices were mostly S*O*L*.....

But if I recall, there was a statement posted somewhere (xlr8yourmac, I believe) from apple that all the printer drivers in 10.4.4 were universal already, and scanner drivers were not, but would be soon.....

If Epson is smart, they will get with the universal library program REAL fast, lest they piss off even MORE mac users than they did when OS X came out......they took for friggin ever to make OS X printer drivers, and even longer for their scanner/twain drivers :(

I used the Image Capture app with my Perfection 1670 USB scanner last night and it ran native ( Intel )I saw no difference between my iMac and my Dual G5.

Rosetta was not involved.

Did you install any drivers for your scanner or did it just work with Image Capture. Be cool if thats what happened.:)

I just plugged in the scanner and poof! :)

Woah, it worked for me too, and my epson scanner model wasnt even listed on the supported hardware site! Im glad I read this thread because I was dreading having to run the crappy epson scanning software through rosetta.

I tried the above with my Epson Perfection 1670 USB scanner but no luck. Strangely the scanner powers up on plugging into the mains but when i attach the USB connection to my Duo Core the green 'on' light on the scanner goes out, only to return when i remove the USB connection. The scanner works OK with my G4. Anyone got any ideas?
