Is there any small and simple program - or even a widget - that will allow me to use my scanner. With basic controls.

I don't like having to launch photoshop everytime I need to get images. I am also not a fan of VuScan software ( rather use photoshop!! )

I have a Powerbook 1.25 and a usb Canon LIDE 1220u scanner

cheers all

Try the Canon website and go to the download software page.

I have a Canon LIDE scanner (not the same model as you unfortunately), and use the CanoScan software which I downloaded from this site - it works well and is pretty simple.

I had a quick look and couldn't find the relevant software under the 1220u, but it might be worth looking at one of the other models' download page and downloading it to see if it is compatible.

Indeed; Canon's own software seems to work pretty well for quick-and-dirty scanning. Even the buttons on the front of my old N670U work properly, either launching a single scan or sending the contents of the flatbed directly to the printer. Surprisingly enough, the little button manager background app even works properly under 10.4.
