Scared and anscious to open my MBP

With all of these threads going on about grainy display, imperfect lids and videos on you tube of faulty logic boards I am scared to open my MBP box this Christmas.

What percentage of MBP come out with problems. Are these MBP as tough as regular windows laptops or do they require even more care?

You will feel a lot better if you buy applecare. It may be expensive, but it is entirely worth it.

There is an extremely small chance your MBP will not work perfectly out of the box, so don't worry about it. Most mac users choose to handle their computers with more care because they are so fond of them, but It is not any less tough than most PC laptops out there.

Enjoy your new computer, don't be afraid to use it. It's like buying a new car and keeping it in the garage because you don't want to scratch it.

Remember though, if you havn't already, buy applecare!

You should just buy it....I was getting into a similar fret before I purchased mine but all that apprehension melted away when I first booted it up and realized that it was in great condition. It is by far the best computer that I have ever owned and you really will be happy.

Well I already purchased my MBP but I have not opened the box. (I dont want to steal from the christmas excitement)

Mind posting a link to a video with the logic board issues? I thought those are limited to the older "Core Duo" models when they used thermal conductivity paste like it is toothpaste

The only real issue that you have to worry about is the grainy display. It can be very distracting if your eyes can spot it, but most people can't, so ignorance is bliss! Also the squeaky keyboards, but that is an issue that can be easily remedied.

I'd say the percentage of broken Mac's is very low. I was in the same boat as you, very paranoid after reading these forums too much I've said it on here before, and i'll say it again: the majority of happy customers with perfect machines don't bother posting. It's the ones who are not pleased who will post more readily.

With your MBP, you get 1 year warranty and 90 days phone support included. You don't have to buy the AppleCare warranty extension right up, you can get it at any time in the first year. I haven't got it with mine, but may purchase it towards the end of my first year of ownership if I think i'll need it. I haven't ever kept a laptop longer than a year so far, so for me it would be a waste to get it straight away.

Great. After spending $2000 on a laptop I dont have too much cash left to buy an extended warranty but it will be something worth getting down the road before the original warranty is void.

Mine was perfect hardware wise. I have yet to see a grainy screen on one and I see probably 5 different ones a day. I have no unusual gaps in the case. My lid closes nice and tight. The screen is the best one that they have introduced.
Prior to this C2D 2.33GHz I owned a 2.16GHz CD, and a 2.0GHz MacBook. This MacBook Pro is at the point where it was faster than my 2.3GHz DP G5 with 4GB of RAM (in most tasks, CS3 changes things).
On a separate note when I first got my C2D 2.33 it was running slower than my 2.16 CD. I formatted reinstalled, still ran slow. I then booted into single user mode, and typed in "exit". The machine booted into Tiger, and then I restarted the computer. BAM! The thing hauls balls now. Best Apple laptop to date.

Now, I read your post and could you elaborate more one what this procedure does and if it is something that everyone should do with their macs.
