On this week's MacBreak Weekly Alex Lindsay said he scheduled an appointment to p/u his iPad -- not the generic reserve and p/u b/t 9a-3p, but rater he received a specific time to come in so he would only have to wait in a shorter line. He mentioned Apple was giving out time slots in 300 person increments, i.e., 300 people were told to come in a 9a, another 300 at 10a, etc.

The audio can be heard at http://twit.tv/mbw186. He says it right after Leo makes the introductions and moves to the iPad discussion -- maybe a minute or two after the show starts. (Sorry you have to suffer through the intro.)

I looked on the iPad site and didn't see anything mentioning specific appointments. Anyone have any more info on this? Maybe just store specific -- he is in SF. Just curious.

Sorry for the null-info reply, but this is the first time I've heard of it.

I mean, I guess you could try scheduling a genius bar appt, but somehow I bet they wouldn't be very amused.

Genius bar appts are cancelled for that day - at least at my store

Sounds like a good plan if they in fact let people do that. However 300 an hour is a pretty good rate, in which case I'm not to worried about standing in line at my local Apple store. Thankfully we just pay and go vs the horrible experience of activating a phone. Should go pretty quick either way i think.

i just got an email from someone from the business team at the local store asking if i would like to make an appointment to pick up my ipad i reserved. heres what it reads:

My name is Scott from the Business Team here at the Apple Store. I noticed that you had reserved an iPad here at our store. My position here is to assist our business customers in any way possible. I was wondering if you were planning to use your new iPad for business in some way, and if so, I would like to make the purchasing process as smooth and as quick as possible on launch day. Feel free to call or email me if you are using the iPad for business so I can help streamline the purchasing process. I hope you are as excited for April 3rd as I am! Have a great day.

sounds like a good idea. ill be making my appointment now.

Ah. Thanks for posting. Makes sense now. Looks like they are giving biz customers a VIP type treatment.
