A toddler just walked on my iPad in its case with sand on his feet - there are now scratches all over the display. What are my options? Any clear display covers that make the scratches less visible but still leave the touchscreen well useable? Alternatives to Apple replacing the display (>$300 according to customer support) that are less expensive? Thanks.

Wow. Not a smart idea to leave the iPad where someone can walk on it. They usually work better well above the floor. With that being the case, you might have to bite the bullet and spring for a new display unless you can live with the scratches.

What about having a windshield repair company check it out. I am not sure if it is feasible, but they only charge $35-$40 to fix chips in auto glass. Check into it, and let us know.

And keep your iPad off of the floor.

My thoughts to but the iPad glass is a bit different as I understand it. Also it has a special coating on it as well. And if anyone else other than Apple fixes it, the warranty is voided.

Don't know after the fact but my invisible shield from Zagg protects the screen BEFORE scratches....

Did you really need to remind the OP what's a smart idea and what isn't? Last week, my friend's toddler threw his iPhone4 in the toilet while he was in the shower :(

There was also an iPod polish avalable when the 1st gen nanos came out. I'll have to look for the link one one of the 'truck' computers.

How in the hell does a toddler walk on an iPad.

It must be like farting and blaming the dog....

Thanks for the thoughts. I once saw a docu about a guy doing display glass replacements in his home for the iPhones using original Apple parts and all customers were super happy about it. He said he'd start doing iPads soon, and that was several months ago. I can't find him on the web though.

Quite simple: Using his feet (while playing a session of "First Words", an educational iPad app made for people that age, while the adults didn't watch for 10 seconds.)

Good idea.. Completely void your warranty so that if anything that's not cosmetic goes wrong then you will HAVE to pay out that $300 fee to fix it.
