I have an iPhone XS Max. The screen is bright when I’m holding it down (horizontal) but when I lift it up to my face (vertical) the screen automatically goes dim. How do I make this stop? I want it to stay bright all of the time. It’s running iOS 14.4.2 currently.

go to settings, search Auto Brightness.and turn it off.

Well, that worked good last night but today in the sunlight, without the Auto Brightness turned on, the screen doesn't get bright enough to see it outside. So, I would want it to do the automatic outside in the sun but not do the automatic inside when it is raised. I've had several different iPhones and iPads for almost 10 years and this is the first time that I have ever had this problem.

im guessing its like that because outdoors usually require very high brightness and Apple did this to "help" users as long duration of high brightness might damage the device.

Okay, yeah, I will have to adapt to it. I have very poor vision and the brighter the screen the better I can see it. Everyone tells me it's too bright but that's how I need it to be for me to see it. Thanks for your time.
