Hi, This is my daughter's Macbook Air (2015) - I've blocked out my daughter's name but is the large black block towards the bottom of the screen a bleed? That is the diagnosis from a local computer guy, but I've Googled 'screen bleed' & it doesn't seem the same? TIA!

I would call that a "failing backlight"
The term that your "local computer guy" chooses to use might not be accurate, but the fix is probably the same.

You can try reseating the display data cable. If that doesn't help, then you would replace the display assembly.

I think it may be time for a new computer.

The cost to fix would be prohibitive vis-a-vis a new laptop.

Looking again at this:
Do you still have that same dark area after you login to the Mac? (It is "dark" not black, as you can see the image and other screen elements. (I think a true screen problem would simply show a black/blank area, not a "dark theme"
Seems to be a one-third nighttime, and the upper two thirds on daytime.
I think it would be useful to change the desktop to another background, just a straight background, that cannot change depending on the time of day.
