I'm using my 2016 Macbook Pro (non touchbar) for a few days now. All reviews talk about the much improved screen brightness. However, in my experience the brightness of my 2010 MacBook Air was better. Under normal light conditions I need to turn the screen to around 55/65% to just be able to do my work. On my Air it could stay around 50% or below under simular conditions.

When I have automatic dimming turned on, as soon as the sun goes behinds the clouds, the screen dims to 2 or 3 bars, which on my mbp is unworkable dark. I need to manually dial it up constantly.

Has anyone simular experiences? Or do I misunderstand the concept brightness?

It might be the change in brightness each type you turn it up or down a bar. I also noticed that brightness appeared somewhat underwhelming until I cranked it up towards the last two bars where it becomes strong enough to almost light up the room.
I also have the ntbMBP.
