I know there are a lot of comments so I am sorry if I am rehashing something old but have you thought about taking it to an apple location? Even though you are past the return policy, you might be able to get it swapped out. That definitely is not normal on a phone that is only a few weeks old.

It is hard to tell but from the photo you showed earlier, it looks like it might not actually be burn in, looks like possibly an over-brightness issue in that one region of the display. Could also be pixels that are stuck(Common with bad displays in general)

The thing is I don't know if it was like that when I bought it and I've only noticed it now. Possibility that it was like that out the box.
So you’re saying it’s burn in but also saying it might not be burn in and could be a defect from purchase… So you made a burn in thread for something you shouldn’t be calling burn in…

Hello all.

Not a complain or a rant just a little announcement to all who use always on display.

Last night I noticed some screen burn on my display when viewing in the dark. I have a line across the top part of the display where the widgets are and slight discolouration on the display in other areas.

I have since turned always on display off. I think because the always on display doesn't function like the normal (better ones) AOD like on a Samsung where it shifts the pixels every min or so it may cause the issue.

Hopefully apple can patch its behaviour. If it can happen to mine it may happen to yours as I have been using always on since I got the phone on launch day.
Choose your words very carefully here, the cabal are going to nitpick on every single little thing you say about daddy Apple, so make absolutely sure you are confident it is burn-in, no flip flopping, they will be looking for anything they can point at as you being untrustworthy.
If you have so much as a detention record from highs school, your case won’t hold here, good luck!

Ps. Maybe also edit this first post and add the picture you posted later in the thread, or else you will trigger many who don’t like reading and they will be posting they want pics endlessly.

No worries. I think with how apple has implemented it its going to be an issue as the pixels are not shifting. Apple says they don't need to do that but I could cause issues later down the line.

On my Samsung, which in my opinion, has the best AOD shifts the pixels and moves the clock around so the issue does not happen.
Or old Nokias (n8, 808).

Yeah I've noticed haha. It's like I'm in court can't make a single mistake in what I'm saying or get the timeline of events wrong 😂😂

Currently having a lovely text message chat with  and they are saying I can have an express replacement as I have  care plus. Just confirming whether or not that affects my upgrade program device details.

Here’s the thing.

Take it in to a Apple Store and show them what you showed us. If anyone else sees something on their phone do the same thing.
It could be like someone said a faulty display.
I’ve had AOD on since launch day and not seeing anything. If I do I’ll take it in. I can’t worry about a problem I don’t have.

So many people on this forum are tripping about AOD. “ It’s not done the way Samsung does it” “ It’s draining my battery”. Why does Apple have to be so different”.

This is what I don’t understand. If you want something that’s not different then get the device that’s not different.

From what I’ve read there is some type of pixel shift with the iPhone AOD. What or how they do it I have no idea. I’m not a iPhone engineer and no one here is.

Just because there’s no floating clock doesn’t mean they don’t have a way of doing pixel shift that’s not obvious or whatever they do to potentially avoid screen burn in.

Does anyone really know how they do what they do.

You shouldn’t have to use your Apple care for this, it’s a fault on apples part not yours so it shouldn’t cost you anything.

They aren't charging me they are just sending me the replacement via post and i will send the faulty device back. They only put a hold on my credit card in the event that I don't send the original phone back.

This wont count as accidental damage on my part.

Yeah express replacement is pretty good.

I don't think the always on display is that good, but I certainly wouldn't worry about it burning in on the new one.

Cheers mate same. To be honest the messaging feature through the support app was great i was able to send the image to them and explain the situation and it was sorted in no time.
Wait, they’re giving you as replacement unit and not a brand new iPhone?

The replacement is a brand new one as the phone has only been out for a few weeks. They cant give me a whole new phone as id have to return the phone which would cancel my iUP and then id have to start a new one from scratch.

Before sending the current device back , be sure to do some stress tests on the OLED panel. Sitting the phone under a bright light source ( table lamp ) hit the brightness to max and prevent display timing out. Use a white background for a good few hours. That defect if it was a screen burn should be gone. Alternatively, do the same with AOD ON for hours 😂

Apart from bad hardware or perhaps not coming from aod,” but high display intensity due to bright conditions; burn-in after a few weeks is something that most of us don’t hear about.

Hard to believe apple didn’t take burn-in (or battery) into consideration.

Update: yes I know it may not be burn in now my sincere apologies for offending anyone here who has worked in the display industry since the early 70s.
burnt OLED pixels are darker than new OLED pixels, not lighter.

Certainly! This is why I say OP needs to make sure that it is indeed burn-in, at the end of the day this could be an anomaly OR something else completely, I am curious to understand what is going on to.

One thing I have learnt in tech, is that sometimes you can be one of the few unfortunate persons who lands up with a lemon in your hands and when you come to a forum like MR that is full of zealots who will not want to believe anything bad about their favourite brand, you need to be firm on your feet and ensure you are telling the full story with minimal error from your side otherwise you be vilified. I see it on car forums too.

Apple can put in as many measures as they can but at the end of they cannot completely control mistakes a supplier may make here and there, we may have some weird anomalies.

At least Apple are replacing the unit which is great, that’s the best they can do.

Mostyl refurbished. It can be checked by model number. But there is certain home that it will be new one as refurbished could not be at the moment on stock.
I did once changed iPhone for “brand new” (refurbished) and never ever again. Very bad experience..

I cannot understand how can you except anything else but brand new unopened factory packaged device. Your phone had a defect. You should get real new one for replacement. Anything else is Apple screwing you. Doesn’t matter if it’s iUP or not. This is principle. You paid for new phone. You should get new phone. This is my opinion.

I agree with you about 100% quality control being a theoretical number. The critics jump all over it, while the fans explain it away.

If the issue is legit and apple makes good…is what matters.
