Screen Casting/Mirroring?

I picked up a Chromecast today hoping to easily be able to cast from my iPhone 6 onto my Samsung HDTV. My TV already has Netflix, etc., although I figured Chromecast would make Pandora and some other functions easier. But the main reason was to cast home pictures and videos (including from iCloud), and to let my kids play games on the big screen with casting/mirroring.

So I've realized this isn't as easy as expected with Chromecast. Would I be better off with Apple TV? Am I missing something?

iOS doesn't have native Chromecasting built in - some apps specifically support it but if they don't then you're out of luck. The "equivalent" on iOS is AirPlay Mirroring, for which you need an Apple TV

Thanks a lot for the quick response. Just wanted to make sure that if I exchange for Apple TV it'll be what I'm looking for since I'm new to this stuff.

Yeah, an Apple TV will let you mirror the screen to a TV. Some apps do block AirPlay though for reasons of copyright (Sky and Virgin in the UK are two that spring immediately to mind), but most apps work fine.

One word of caution though - if you don't have a very fast WiFi there can be a bit of lag which may affect game play

Or you could use a Lightning Digital AV Adapter.
