My daughters printer fell down and hit the screen but did not damage the glass. But the screen shows all kind a funny lines. Is it repairable?

What exact iMac are we talking about?
Do you have some kind of home insurance that can cover the possible repair?
www.ifixit.com has a lot of guides and parts (though a bit more expensive than other sources like eBay) on how to repair almost every aspect of Macs.

No home Insurance and it is a Imac (2006) I think I could try to buy a VGA adapter and connect a regular Monitor. Would this work?

If it is a 24" iMac bought in 2008, it is not a G5 iMac (if that is what you mean with - ah you edited your post, why does it say "iMac 2006" now?), then try this: http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/iMac-Intel-24"
