The screen edge near the volume buttons is not quite flush with the aluminum side; it's just fractionally raised/lifted, and you can really feel it running your finger over the side. The iPhone was like this out of the box, and at first I didn't think anything of it, but since I don't use a case for my phone, I kept feeling it in my hand and it started to bother me, this slight raised edge. I did some internet digging and compared it to an old iPhone 6S, and it's definitely not supposed to be raised like that. It should feel flush/essentially seamless. One video I found indicated that this was an issue of phones with the 6 body style and related the problem to a swollen battery. So, I'm sending it into Apple for a repair, and I'm curious what they'll say about it. I hate to be so finicky, but it's brand new - it should be perfect!

Anyone else experience something like this with an iPhone SE or 8, 7, or 6 series?

Unfortunately, I don’t have an Apple Store in my area, so my only option was to mail it in. The technicians said they were not able to “replicate the issue” and said the phone passed all diagnostic tests. I’m assured that there’s no risk of a swollen battery, but they returned the phone still with that irritating rough edge where the glass meets the frame, right near the volume buttons.

Do I have any other options to have this addressed by Apple?

this is an old issue. I remember encountering it with the 6 series. annoying, but nothing you can do. its got to do with the way the screen is attached to the body.
Learn to live with it and know that it is up to spec, within manufacturing tolerance of aluminium phones.
