Screen freezes

Hi there,

Today i was using my iMac (24inch, intel core 2 duo, 3.06GHz processor, 2GB ram) after playing World of Warcraft for a couple of hours, i started watching youtube videos. Whilst watching a video i made it full screen in 1080p. After this the video started to lag and upon attempting to exit fullscreen the screen froze and presented a solid grey or blue colour. Upon restarting i was able to log on but 2 seconds after log in it goes back to the same frozen solid colour. I attempted logging in mutliple times and sometimes the colour changed to green. I can boot it up into safe mode and everything is fine with no problems running etc. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem before and could help me out with resolving the problem. I had something like this happen before but slightly differently after my graphics card burnt out. It happened a year after having my mac and i was unable to log on at all, the screen just flashed up with multiple colours, so i guess i'm ruling out graphic card problems?

Just too help you out with a bit more info, i have tried verifying & repairing the hard drive, running a apple hardware test, and resetting the PRAM and SMC.

Why don't you call apple care?

Another thing you can do is to disconnect your mac from the power source (10min may be?) and try to turn it back on.

Do I need the apple care package to be able to call them? I tried disconnecting the power source but it did the same thing. It works perfectly fine in safe mode so I'm not sure what it could be

anyone else had this problem. I'm running out of options and really don't have the money to send it off to have a diagnostic

I've had similar-ish problems, my MBP 13, will freeze up for like a minute, but it is becoming increasingly rare, down to almost none. Don't do anything drastic yet. Give it time. And take it in to apple. Even w/o warranty, they are so nice, they will do it for free, (+parts), yet another reason I love .

Ok thanks for the advice. When my graphics card went previously i had to pay £300 (i think it was more) to get it repaired. Is it better to take it into an apple store or to a authorized service provider? Also would i need to make an appointment at an apple store for the genius bar or something or can i just walk in ?
