Hey guys ...

I just got my 3g a week ago ... totally love it. I upgraded to 2.1, it's all working fine, just one problem. When I try to retreive my voicemail, the screen goes blank or fickers on and off ... the voice message still plays, but nothing on the screen. Any advice?

On mine, if I hold the iPhone 3G iand cover any part of the screen to the left of the speaker (when playing a VM), it turns the screen off.

Are you covering the proximity sensor to the left of the earpiece?

After trying it again, the screen does shut off when i cover any part of the earpiece. Is that normal? When I push the "speaker" button, the screen is just fine.

That's normal. The iPhone turns off the screen during when it thinks you're holding it next to your head. Covering the top of the screen makes it think you're doing that.

If you are making a call or on the voicemail screen then, yes this is normal.

If you tap the "speaker" button in voicemail and cover the earpiece and it doesn't turn off the screen, this is normal, too.

It shuts off the screen so that when you need to listen to the earpiece on calls or voicemail, you don't accidentally tap buttons with the side of your face.

Thanks guys ..

Sorry for the silly questions. Just another newbie that's freakin out for no reason. ;)

I have had my 3G for a few days I I noticed the same thing: screen going blank on voice mail. However, when my message is complete the screen does not come back on. Hitting Home doesn't work and I have to put my phone to sleep & wake it up again. THAT does not sound normal. Anyone else have that problem?
