There was a thread on this yesterday (not sure where) but all I can remember is that you can do it easily with Sizzling Keys or from within the OS.

Faff around in the Security bit of the Pref Panel.

Sorry I'm not much help but what you're asking is easily done - I just can't remember how...

There is no direct way to screen lock your Mac without any third party software.

A workaround would be to set your Mac to screenave or sleep quickly, and make your Mac ask for a password when it to comes back. This setting can be accessed in the Security panel of System Preferences.

There is. Open Keychain Access, go to its Preferences/General, and check the box that says "Show status in menubar". From the new lock icon in your menubar, select "Lock Screen".

Thats cool but it seems to have the same effect as using a hotcorner to put the screen in screen saver mode though
