So the new Air still has the backlight bleed problem, which I guess is to be expected from an LCD display. It’s only noticeable when I watch movies that are pillarboxed, otherwise I don’t have any other problems.

This is my first iPad and I’m wondering if it’s worth exchanging it. Does the bleeding get worse over time?

It's your money and your iPad so you need to ultimately decide what you want to do with it. Personally, I don't care as long as I don't notice it. I don't go actively looking for it. Bleed would be most visible when watching a movie, but if I watch a movie in the dark my backlighting isn't high enough to cause noticeable bleed. If I'm watching a movie in the light with high backlight, bleed isn't noticeable because everything is bright as well as the ambient light. Not that I have any bleed with my 2020 Pro, but this is where I personally draw the line.

I went to the Apple Store today to get a replacement and the replacement device had a backlight issue that was worse than my current one. So I swapped it out for a 11" Pro and they let me keep the 20W charger that came with the Air. :)

Is there a reason the 2020 iPP 11” would have less backlight issues then the new iPad Air4? I ask just from curiosity.

Buying a 2018 11' pro solved any backlight issues i had with previous iPads. Still going great 2 years on nearly.

Different IPS panel and the fact that it has been in production for longer, allowing the manufacturer to fix any glitches in the panel and device production process.

Also, most likely the Air 4 uses a slightly inferior panel (as shown by the poorer viewing angles ) in order to hit it’s price point.

The screen is inferior to that of the iPad Pro that we know already but the speakers on the other hand are hideous on the air 4. The Air 4 isn’t cheap to buy and for Apple to cut these corners marginally big is ludicrous.

That’s why I still don’t understand why they even make the air. The iPad 8 with the A12 is a great device and the screen has great viewing angles without strange color shifts. The last good air was the 2 as that was the top of the line iPad at the time.

The bleeding definitely gets worse over time. I (still) have an iPad Pro 2017 and the bleeding is just all over it. It started with a couple of thin lines.

I didn't start with Air 4, Apple started the lottery long ago.
