Have 3 triple monitor setup with LG 4k 144hz monitors all connected using DP. On both the Windows 10/11 (Boot Camp) using Nvidia RTX3090 and Mac OS 12.2.1 using 6900XT, whenever I try to wake from sleep, it's hit or miss. Sometimes the screen boots up, sometimes it never wakes up so I have to force-restart my Mac Pro. The drivers are up to date. I use OEM cables also.

Has anyone encountered this and if so, how did you resolve it if you did?

My specs are below in my signature.

Thanks in advance.

Also forgot to add that the OS eventually restarts itself and prompts me to report to Apple for the error. It had something like Power wake failure or something so it had to restart. Let me add that once I get the error code.

I'm not experiencing reboot issues, but I do notice that my Mac is sometimes having a hard time coming out of screen lock. It's either frozen for a minute or two, but when it comes out it's unable to provide me options to log in. Personally, I think the Windows OS is becoming incompatible with every OS update.

Yes, that is normal, because the Mac OS does not support Nvidia graphics.

The work around is disable the sleep.

But none of my monitors are connected to RTX3090. All of them are connected to 6900XT. I even at one point disconnected RTX3090 and only had 6900XT but still had the same issue.

Thanks, I'm experiencing it from both OS, so I think there is some fundamental issue with Mac Pro 7,1 itself that's why I was wondering if everyone else has the same issue.

It occurs because the RTX 3090 is still connected to the PCIe slot. In Mac OS, it does not know what to do with the GPU so is always on and does not know how to put it to sleep/resume.

BTW, I have the RTX 3090 FE. It no issues with sleep in boot camp, but a previous Zotac 3080 had the issue.

It actually still happens without RTX 3090 FE connected, that's the whole issue.

I just captured another error and this has to do with AMD (I have AMD 6900XT FE also). I'm not sure why this keeps happening and I have a normal functioning AMD card also. Same thing with Nvidia RTX3090 FE and happens with Windows 11 sometimes too.

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7fa410cc5b): "[9:0:0][PPLIB] Failed Power Play Resume. Shutting back down.
" @AmdRadeonController.cpp:1998
Panicked task 0xffffff9a0333b670: 349 threads: pid 0: kernel_task
Backtrace (CPU 2), panicked thread: 0xffffff906bab4aa8, Frame : Return Address

Wait, confused what you are saying, so the RTX 3090 FE is not installed in the Mac Pro?

If so, then the sleep issue should not happen.

That's why it's weird. Every time I put it to sleep it'll turn itself off and reboot again.

Unfortunately, regardless if a monitor is plugged in or not. 3080/3090 will panic in Mac OS and most of the time in Boot camp. Nvidia GPUs are not officially supported. How I work around it is either prevent the Mac from sleeping or shutdown when done using.

That is the downfall with Mac Pro and "upgradeability". Upgradeability is more than just having a PC industry port. It also need BIOS and software support.

Right, I understand that. What I meant was this happens even when 3080/3090 was not connected.

Is the 3090 installed in the Mac Pro and monitor just not connected? For this, as mentioned, it will crash during sleep or resume.

Or 3090 not installed in the Mac Pro? May need to remove Nvidia drivers completely from Windows.
