View attachment 792756 Seen under “Settings -> Battery”, what does “Screen Off” means exactly?

The time your device was actively doing something while the screen is off.

Please don’t take the following as a rude, “RTFM”, post but it’s definitely worth checking out the manuals for iOS 12. Even if you’re really experienced with iOS you’re bound to find something new, or be reminded of something you forgot.

My screen off always say 0 min. Are you saying my phone is so efficient that nothing is happening while the screen is off?

Based on my own experience and from reading various threads it seems that not all usage might really be getting accounted for in both screen on and off cases.

There isn’t good user-facing documentation on what consitutes screen off activity. It’s clear that it doesn’t match with “background” as right now I have 9 minutes background and only 3 minutes screen off on my iPad for the last 24 hours.

I suspect it corresponds to the 7 seconds mandatory and up to 10 minutes elective that any app can request when it’s backgrounded but, honestly, I can’t say for sure. If I drill through my “Last 24 Hours” stats, hour by hour, I can’t find any single hour that even shows 1 minute. I’d assume that either it’s a) many apps with their seven second background, none adding up to a minute over an hour or b) just not working very well. Even if it’s a) I’m not sure how useful surfacing that information without being able to drill on what’s using Screen Off (i.e. being able to tap on it for a list) is.

I hope it’s either clarified or just made better as it’s not very useful to me right now. I don’t track my battery activity very closely, since everything I have lasts way longer than I require, but if I did I think might this confuse or aggravate me.
