i have always used screen protectors on other cell phones to be on the safe side and while i have yet to do it with the iphone, i think it'd be a good idea. i like invisible sheild for ipods, but not for the iphone because of the texture.
anyone have pics of their screen protector? what brand and where did you buy it?
i'd prefer one that covers the entire front (ie, above and below the screens, not talking about the chrome) and all the way around the home button (some don't). thanks!! :)

Run, don't walk, to your local Apple store and get the Support Shield protector. It does exactly what you described; no bubbles, no liquid application mess, complete coverage, and once it's on you won't even notice it. I'm not gonna bother taking a photo of mine...you would be hard pressed to even see it. It's crystal clear, smooth as glass, and a perfect fit.

Does it prevent smudges at all?

Unless the screen protector is wood, you're going to get smudges. There is no way around that. Any screen you touch on an ipod, psp, any other phone, you're going to have smudges unless your hands are always completely dry. Its just how it is.

Its impossible not to leave fingerprints or smuges on the screen.
Unless you carry rubber gloves on you at all times :D

I realize that, which is why I asked if these screen protectors are less prone to smudges than the iPhone glass. I had read somewhere that these screen protectors do help minimize the smudges, and I was asking someone who had one if it actually does make a difference.

you can buy these from me if you want...I call them...get ready for it...

iGloves!

They come in three! fruity flavors!!! never smudge your iPhone again!

((disclaimer: iGloves do not protect any other part, membrane, organ, etc from smudging your iPhone...use protection.))

Do you mean this??? (The Power Support Crystal Film):

Crystal Shield

I bought the Power Support Crystal Shield set on June 29th, on the same ticket as my 4 and 8 Gig iPhones. They are great! A friend was admiring my iPhone and asked me if I was going to get "some sort of screen protector" for my iPhone. I had to show him where to look around the home button to see it! Since I have had my on from the activation process until now, I can't say whether it smudges less than the glass, but I can say that I haven't noticed it smudging too much anyway. A quick swipe on my shirt and any smudges are gone. I highly recommend these screen covers!:)

Crystal screen protector

If these are so great and so necessary, why doesn't Apple ship them with the iPhone? I can't believe they cost more to make than the Apple logos shipped with the phone. Can you imagine the profit made on these, $16 for two cheap sheets of plastic wrap?

Because Apple believes that the screen won't scratch under normal wear and tear...BUT...for extra piece of mind, you can always put in on there. It isn't going to hurt the phone having too much protection.
