Screen protector - touch disabled

My wife got a bedazzled screen cover for her Apple Watch. When not on her wrist, she can touch just fine. As soon as it is on the wrist, it stops working with that screen cover on. How can that even be an issue?

change the screen protector, use a better one

Pretty easy to install, almost full coverage, totally invisible and cheap. Mine lasts a couple of months before I have to replace it.
