Hi,

I have an iPad mini running the latest software 14.8 (updated last night). I had a very important video call today and recorded it using the inbuilt Screen Recorder. I had over 20GB of space free. I had a full battery. The video was 1 hr 14 mins. At the end of the call, I stopped the recording (it was still recording) and then waited as I usually do for the video to finalise itself and appear in the camera roll. When it had done this, there is only the last ten minutes of our call in the camera roll. Where is the rest of the video? Is there any way at all to retrieve it? I do not know what's happened, what went wrong. Is there external software that could recover it? I don't understand, and the video is so, so important, I'm distraught. Any help gratefully received.

What's the size of the file? You could try dragging it into iMovie on the chance you can view more of it, but it sounds like the limit was based on your free space.

But there was 20GB of free space. The video had not stopped recording. I stopped it manually after 1 Hr 14 mins. Surely if it was a space problem, it would have stopped on its own prior to that? Is there anywhere on the iPad that the video could be lurking, ie. could it be retrieved and if so from where? The file I have that's ten minutes long from the end of the call is not very large in size, so I doubt there is more to find in imovie. I just want to know whether the iPad had stored it somewhere that I could retrieve it somehow, anyhow. I would pretty much do anything, the video is very important. Thanks.

I'm so sorry that this was such an important recording and now it's causing you a lot of stress. The only option I can think of if you also have a Mac is to download the trial version of iMazing. That will allow you to connect your iPad and get to the actual storage location (File System > Media > DCIM > 100Apple > original photo and video files list as shown below). Your video will have an MP4 extension. I just downloaded the trial and shot a screen recording to test its availability there.

Maybe that will help in some way, but it sounds to me like the recording failed in some way to capture the whole session.
